| Block garages and working together! |
As I learned more and more about observation during this course I realized that play is indeed the work of the child. The intricate systems that children make are amazing. The domains of development are always in a dance of overlapping beauty. In the video the little boy has come up with some beautiful ideas such as one to one correspondence with the ponies and the ovals. They are lined up perfectly. He is creating houses for his dinosaurs. They, too, are lined up so carefully. Adults need to allow the child to "go to work." We need to deconstruct the idea of what WE think they should do and let them...work.
