Africa

I am welcoming a family from Africa. Mozambique to be exact. The family has three children. The interesting thing about this African country and many people would be shocked to know is that the official language is Portuguese. There are many other native languages. I would need to find out if they spoke english and if they didn't I would want to find out how to greet them in Portuguese. I would need to find out the family culture in the sense of religion. We are a Christian center so I would need to find out if they were Christian. The country is predominantly Christian. I would also need to find out what foods that the children would be comfortable eating because foods are notably different, especially if there is poverty within the family. I would also need to find out social culture to see what is acceptable to them and what is not. How do they greet? What is social protocol?
Learning these things would show signs of being warm and welcoming of their family. I always want to find a common ground that makes them see my efforts of welcoming them to my program.
