A glimpse of my life....

I always hesitate to share my life with complete strangers and the internet. I suppose revealing a bit of myself and my heart will help you understand exactly what we are talking about this week; passion in what we do.

As you see I have seven children. I have five children that came to me naturally and two that were birthed in my heart. I embarked upon a journey that began as a way to mentor moms and care for children while I stayed at home to raise my caboose baby. I ended up getting a placement that every foster parent would love. I got a six week old baby boy. He was on my heart from the moment he came to me. It was a VERY long journey to terminate parental rights but he was to be in our family forever. It was meant to be.

There was a little baby I knew that was born to a teenage mother. The mother was 13. She was busy being a teenager. She was skipping school, not literate, not monitored and very very wayward. She had no time for this child. She was a child herself. One day there was a call from a concerned neighbor that a baby had been crying in a basement apartment for 48 hours. The probation officer and the police went to investigate. This baby was alone, crying. The foster system was overbooked and had no homes. They called and called. Finally a family agreed to take her on a temporary emergency. The little girl had flat affect. She was 11 pounds at 8 months old. She had no voice from crying. With one small act of opening the door to their home to care for this child...this child's lot was changed. That baby girl never left that home. She was given love. She was cared for with intensity. She was given a chance to shine. She is now 8. She is an amazing gymnast. She is a voracious reader. She has a wit to kill. She has a beautiful voice.
She is my daughter.  One heart at a time. One act of charity at a time. One person acting on passion. It can change another's lot.
