I spent the afternoon at a Bridal Shower. It was so wonderful to hold babies and talk with mothers. It seems years ago I was packing a diaper bag around and thinking that life outside of that was a century away. I enjoyed the face of the sweet baby that sat at my feet and tried to pick the bright coral paint off my big toe. I loved feeding watermelon to the twin, Claire that had no hair. Her twin, Hope had hair. I had to make a little jingle  to keep the names straight. Claire's head was bare, while Hope had hair.  The beauty of all the little girls under five with tea hats and food. I wonder what they were thinking. The adult women had on hats. There was laughter and banter. I wonder if they thought they were in the land of giants or a fairy land with beautiful decorations? I think moments in ordinary life that are spectacularly out of the ordinary, such as a party or a shower, inspire a child.
I actually think my coral big toe made that baby happy too.
The best part of the day was looking to my right and seeing my twenty two year old baby holding Claire while she slept. Someday she will understand the obsession I had with those sweet tender moments.
