Me- as a communicator.

My exercise in assessing myself as a communicator were very similar to the assessments by my colleague and mother. It was off by a margin of no more than three points. I was surprised that the assessments were so similar. Many times the way you look at yourself and the way that others perceive you are different. Sometimes this makes change a little more difficult.
I believe I need to work on things such as sensitivity to feelings and emotions of others. I need to be more of an active listener. I think I excel in the area of public speaking and communicating in small groups.
Two things that I learned this week are that schema affects our perceptions. This schema is inbred. To adjust it we have to be intentional. We need to use an organic filter.
The other thing that I learned this was in relation to the exercise in the discussion board. We all assumed many things about this woman in the picture and we could all be very wrong. It is so important to communicate first, then draw conclusions.
